November 2024

Dear Families,

Sendai experiences a breathtaking autumn, a season that beautifully illustrates the art of letting go, much like the vibrant leaves that fall during this time ๐Ÿ‚. Throughout November, we've engaged in some wonderful activities that have enriched our community. This month has provided exciting opportunities for both our kids and teachers, allowing everyone to learn, grow, and create lasting memories together. Here's to embracing the beauty of change and all the adventures that lie ahead!

Week 24- November 2, 2024

We kicked off our lesson with a lively song and dance, followed by a brief introduction to get to know one another better. We enjoyed plenty of movement and music together. For our literacy exploration, we focused on the letter "Z," the final letter of the alphabet. We practiced writing and identifying words that begin with "Z." We also listened to a story about community helpers, specifically health workers like doctors and nurses. The students had hands-on experience using a stethoscope and handling a bandage. For our art activity, we gathered items we can find during the autumn season. We collected leaves, acorns, and pinecones to create beautiful autumn wreaths. I’m excited about the learning and creativity we will explore together!

Week 25 -November 9, 2024

We delved into the world of numbers, exploring various counting methods while coloring at the same time! In our literacy session, we centered our attention on the letter /W/, discovering words that begin with this letter. We practiced pronouncing and writing words like watermelon, wagon, whale, wallet, wheel, and more. To make it fun, we created watermelons using our W-shaped fingers and hands. We painted our hands and added seeds to our watermelon creations! For our craft activity, we continued our theme of community helpers by focusing on the tools doctors use during patient check-ups.  We assembled a mini doctor’s kit using various materials, allowing the children to engage in imaginative play. I’m grateful for your child’s enthusiastic participation today.

Week 26 - November 16,2024

We had a lot of movement for our morning meeting. Since it was a special occasion, friends could request the songs they wanted to sing and dance to. They were all enthusiastic participants even during songs that were a bit new to the theme and quickly understood new words. We also focused on practicing spelling and pronunciation first with a puzzle game. Then students lined up and each one of them received one word to spell. We helped each other when it was a bit more difficult to spell correctly. Everyone did their best!๐ŸณThe most fun exercise of the day was the quiz where the students had to identify hidden animals. They could all share their best guess and collect points for correct answers. We progressed from easy level to advanced! We finished our class with craft activity.

Week 28-November 30th

We explored many ways to say hello, and the students danced and sang during our morning meeting. Our focus was on /ei/ words like lie, tie, fried, and pie, which we creatively connected to art by making pies. We also enjoyed singing jolly phonics songs about the "ie" sound. During our break, the students had a blast playing with balloons and participating in a fun jumping relay. To wrap up our class, we listened to the story of "Rainbow Fish," which teaches important lessons about kindness and friendship. The students then created their own versions of Rainbow Fish through art. We also had a brain break filled with words and movement activities to keep everyone energized!

It has indeed been a beautiful month and we are looking forward to the winter season. Excited for more exciting activities together in Horizon Aoba.
