Saturday School Blog

Kia Ora, Families
Welcome to the Saturday School Blog.

We are happy to inform you that we will continue releasing a monthly blog at the end of each week.
Please look at it together with your children and engage in discussions about it within your house.

🌸 Our theme for this month was all about Spring
We have been learning about and discussing many topics and events that happen during spring.

WEEK 1, ApriL 6th

Kicking off the year, we started with our Spring theme. A very popular spring activity is going on picnics. The students talked about their favorite foods to take on picnics. It was interesting talking about places they want to go on a picnic. We had some interesting answers like "in the sea" and "on a mountain". After our discussion, we made our own picnic mats and baskets. We made sure to pack enough food for ourselves and friends who were going with us.

WEEK 1, APRIL 13TH

This week, we discussed cherry blossoms and their importance and significance in Japan. We also learnt that there are cherry blossoms around the world, but some of them look different to the ones in Japan. Our friends made beautiful cherry blossom trees and thought about where we can go to enjoy cherry blossoms in Sendai. We used craft paper, glue, shape cutters and many crafting tools to make our artworks.

WEEK 3, APRIL 20TH

Continuing our theme, we talked about some popular spring events around the world. Because the weather was quite windy, we talked about fun activities that can be done today. We learnt about kite festivals and what is necessary for a kite to fly, what decorations and shapes are popular and where we can fly them safely. We chose to make our kites out of light materials, such as paper, plastic, glue and tapes.
