Saturday School Blog
Kia Ora, Families
Welcome to the Saturday School Blog.
We are happy to inform you that we will continue releasing a monthly blog at the end of each week.
Please look at it together with your children and engage in discussions about it within your house.
🌸 Our theme for this month was a continuation of Spring.
We took a more in-depth look at many topics and events that happen during spring.
WEEK 4, may 11TH
This week, we focused on plants and growing.
First thing, we did a short vocabulary review and talked about our likes and dislikes.
We then moved onto phonics and relevant writing practice. It was great seeing how well our friends are doing with their writing.
Our story this week was "The Tiny Seed" by Eric Carle. We learnt about how plants grow and what conditions they need to grow. For our craft, we designed and made our own flower gardens using pipe cleaners, felt, pompoms, and other craft items. There were so many beautiful and colourful gardens.

WEEK 5, may 18TH
This week, we continued with our Spring theme, our focus being on different types of weather, specifically the most common ones in Spring, what we do in certain types of weather, and why it is important to have a variety of weather. ☁️⛅️⛈️☀️🌦🌧🌨🌤🌩🌪🌈☔️❄️☃️
We talked a lot about rain and the water cycle. We also discussed why water/rain is very import for all living things on earth.
As our craft today, we made rain clouds using watered down paint, straws and cotton stuffing. It was very fun getting our friends to do blow painting, and I'm sure some of them got tired afterwards.

WEEK 6, May 25TH
The theme today was Trees and forests.
First we did our usual phonics, reading and writing activities. Our friends are getting really good at writing. As each week progresses, the letters are becoming cleaner and neater.

For our main topic activity, we learnt about different and unique types of trees from around the world. We also learnt how to tell the age of a tree.
Our craft today was our age trees. We chose how many rings for our tree we needed, equal to our age. After that, we stuck them on the paper, and decorated it with grass and bugs.
