Welcome to the Saturday School Blog.

WEEK 7, June 1st

As spring came to a close, we finished our bugs and insects topic this week. Our friends learnt about how important our small creepy crawly friends are, and how they help us and the world around them. We looked at the lifecycle of a caterpillar, and for our craft we made our own colourful and glittery caterpillar friend.

WEEK 8, june 8th

This week, we kicked off our health and wellbeing topic. We had a look at some funny and interesting sports from around the world. It was interesting to see such a variety of different activities that can be done in varying environments. Our friends were impressed with the caber tossing in Scotland, and bubble football in New Zealand. For our craft, our friends designed their own medals, which were presented to them at the end of the lesson.

WEEK 9, june 15th

This week, our focus was healthy vs. unhealthy food. We asked our friends why we thought certain foods were healthy or unhealthy. Then, we looked at balancing intake of certain types of food and how we can maintain a healthy lifestyle whilst still having all the foods we like. Using the food pyramid, we could see how much of each category we should eat on a daily basis. For our activity, we had a healthy vs. unhealthy food scavenger hunt. Our friends chose one of the above categories, and then searched the classroom for foods that fit in their category. After that, we cut and stuck them to our list.

Week 10, June 22nd

This week, we wrapped up our health and wellbeing topic with our farmers market. We looked at farmers markets from around the world and discussed about what food items we could see. A large majority of the produce was fruit and vegetables. After that, we coloured in a wide variety of fruit and vegetables so that we could host our own mini farmers market in the later part of the lesson. Also, we created our own original $1 coins that we would use and share with our friends during the market.
