Welcome to the Saturday School Blog.

WEEK 11, JULy 6th

On the back of the International Children's Festival that was held at the Izumi campus last weekend, we continued with our international theme this week. We learnt about many countries flags and their names. We looked at the globe using google earth, and talked about what countries we could find there. Our friends were surprised to see the difference in size of many countries. For our craft/activity, we made our own world. Many friends would check the globe and try to make land masses that matched the shape and sizes of real countries that they could see. It was so great to see our friends really engage with the world and take an active interest in finding information for themselves.

WEEK 12, JUly 13th

This week, we learnt about international food. We also reviewed country flags and names. Our friends were really surprised to learn where certain types of food come from. Most notably pizza and pasta. For our craft, we made "giant pizza". This was a collaborative activity where all of our friends were in charge of making and decorating their own slice of Pizza. At the end, we joined all of our pieces together to see what our completed pizza looked like.

WEEK 13, JUly 20th

This week, marks the end of Term 1. It has been a pleasure and absolute joy having all our friends join us for Saturday School. To show our thanks and appreciation, we had an end of Term party which we joined classes to celebrate together. Both Upper and Lower grades prepared snacks to share together, and we had a short watch party. We watched an episode of Curious George, and Bluey. The snack that our class prepared was "Fairy Bread". This is a New Zealand party food, and just one of the many international foods we learnt about over the last couple of weeks. Whilst preparing the snack, we talked about food hygiene and safety. After finishing the preparations, we all gathered in a classroom together, shared our snacks, and enjoyed spending some down time together.
For the second part of our party, we played dodgeball, and musical chairs. It was so much fun! The winners of musical chairs each received a prize. Some friends were sad that they could not get a prize this time, but we will make sure that there are more chances next term to win. ^_^
Thank you once again for a wonderful Term 1, and we all look forward to seeing everyone again in Term 2.
