Saturday School Blog

Junior & Graduate Class

Dear Families,

How is your autumn going? Some people like to by fragrant teas when autumn comes, some people like to plan outdoor activities. Some of us crave sweets because of the colder weather!

This is our brief monthly blog post about what we did at Saturday School in September. We hope to see you next month too!

Weeks 16-17, September 7th and September 14th

The first two Saturday School classes in September involved revising previously learned grammar tenses, practicing new vocabulary with games, and working our way through the English past tense with worksheets. Our students improved a lot in their use of correct tenses.

Our reading comprehension focused on rock climbing and water sports, respectively. Continuing with the theme of sports, we watched videos and read short articles on climbing sports in the Olympic games. We created pom pom shooters during our craft session.

Week 18-19, September 21st and September 28th

The last two Saturday School classes of this month involved lots of spelling practice and some storytelling practice. We usually use short animations to construct simple sentences in the correct tense and with some useful vocabulary. We write down new words together.

Our grammar practice is not only about grammar tenses, but also about understanding the difference between grammatical structures such as must do, could do and want to do.

We practiced restaurant and food-related vocabulary with a crossword puzzle worksheet. We also practiced matching prices to items on a menu and telling each other how much each item costs.

We watched a tourist guide video on some unique cafes in Tokyo. The students had to answer short questions and write their answers down.

We always watch something fun with English narration during snack time. Our favorite video this time was about treehouses.

Our craft sessions followed the theme of cafes and restaurants. Our students created drink corner menu cards and dessert menu cards.
