Welcome to the October Saturday School blog.
This month we had a focus on "Fairy Tales, Fables, Nursery Rhymes and Story Telling".

Week 21, October 12th
Today's Sport subtopic was: Fables and Fairy Tales.
These types of well known stories often have a moralistic message attached to them, so it was interesting to discuss with everyone what their interpretation of the messages from the stories we looked at were. Because our theme this month was about stories and reading, we made our own bookmarks that we can use when we read books.

Week 22, October 19th
Today's Sport subtopic was: Nursery Rhymes.
Our focus for today was identifying rhyming sounds. We took a look at a variety of nursery rhymes, and then practiced finding the rhyming words. We especially looked at itsy bitsy spider, so for our craft, we made our own spider friends. Our friends could fairly quickly grasp the concept of rhyming sounds. Great work!

Week 23, October 26th
Today's Sport subtopic was: Story Telling.
We spent some time discussing the parts of a story, how it's made, and why the different parts are important. Using the story of "the rainbow fish", we identified the beginning middle and end of the story. We also enjoyed looking at the characters, and what the message of the story was. For this topic, we made our own original story books, using a variety of pictures, and settings. It was so much fun seeing everyone get excited to make their very own story.
